Information from Association Legalize it! (May 2025)

At the beginning of June, we will send out the new Legalize it!, issue 106. It contains the minutes of our 2025 association meeting, an initial overview of Repression 2024 and a call for participation in our policy group.

This is because the draft law for a new approach to cannabis in Switzerland will soon be published. We want to discuss this together and formulate a consultation response. Our policy group has already compiled a number of arguments. Much more remains to be done! If you are interested, please get in touch.

The Association MedCan is organizing a workshop on home-growing tomorrow (Saturday, 24 May). Quick decision makers can register here.

The Buds and Beats festival is just a few days away. On Saturday, May 31, the time has come and we will be there with a Legalize it! stand (number 22). Together with IG Hanf, we will be giving a talk on hemp policy at 3.30 pm. We are looking forward to this new event and hope to see many of you there!

This year, we are digitizing our archive, which primarily contains political and legal information. The archive dates back to the 1990s and contains several dozen bulging folders. Fabian has been scanning everything for a few weeks now. The archive will then be more accessible digitally and storage will take up much less space.

A cannabis pilot project should also be set up in Aargau. This is the demand of a petition by the Young Liberals: Cannabis pilot project now! We hope you will sign the petition and that it will meet with a positive response.

It's quite extraordinary that a large proportion of the cannabis for the pilot projects is grown in Aargau, but no such project is planned there.

We reviewed the year 2024, approved Annual report and accounts and elected the 2025 Board of Directors. We will publish the minutes of the meeting in the next Legalize it!, issue 106.

For the first time, our AGM took place in our new meeting room. We want to use this for various activities to support the political process in the coming years.

The Federal Statistical Office (FSO ) had already published the narcotics statistics (BMS) for 2024 at the end of March. In the meantime, we have been able to update our documents and in Legalize it! No. 106 we will publish a first article with these figures. As has been the case for years, this will be a general overview with initial estimates. A more specific analysis of, for example, the differences in the prosecution of weed and hashish is planned for the fall (LI107).
But this much can already be revealed at this point: The figures have fallen by around three quarters since the highs in 2015 - but there were still just under 15,000 criminal offenses reported in Switzerland in 2024! And this is without the figures from the fixed penaltiespublished by the FSO only up to 2021. This means that 40 cannabis-related offens es are still reported every day in this country! The future will show how far these figures will fall before the trough or legalization is reached.
